SPOT Overview & Flow Diagram

SPOT™ consists of a series of pages that the user navigates through in a specific linear manner, as shown in the flow diagram below. The staging of inputs and results are such to decrease user wait time. This is done by running required calculations one step before they are needed, hence much of the calculation time in the program occurs while the user is interacting with another input page or reviewing a results page. The staging of the program pages also provides coherency to the process of designing a daylighting and photosensor control system.

The program has two main sections to its progression: the first section is the Design Tool followed by an Analysis Tool section.

  1. The Design Tool consists of all the geometry and site inputs and gives electric lighting and initial annual daylighting results. The final piece of the Design Tool, using the inputs and initial calculations, provides recommended photosensor placements for the analyzed space. The recommended photosensor placements provide good starting points for analysis but do not necessarily represent the absolute optimal photosensor system scenario. Further iteration with the Analysis Tool is required to really fine tune a photosensor system design.
  2. The Analysis Tool consists of two pages. The first page allows the user to mix and match defined photosensor scenarios with luminaire zones and analyze resulting correlations and estimated annual performance. The second page takes the set photosensor scenarios and analyzes their performance throughout the year using annual hour-by-hour weather data.
