Building Energy Evaluation Engineer - Boulder, Colorado

General Characteristics:
Full-time employment in professional building energy evaluation services (BEES) team. Employee will be a lead member of the BEES team and will perform duties as required by the BEES team leader, and eventually become self-sufficient in managing BEES projects. This position is located in Boulder, Colorado.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Perform energy audits of varying complexity
- Set up BAS trends, install data logging equipment, and analyze monitored data
- Develop detailed DOE-2 energy models
- Identify and evaluate energy conservation measures using energy modeling and spreadsheet analysis
- Meet with clients and discuss energy efficient solutions to mechanical and lighting systems
- Be able to manage and schedule a project in its entirety including report writing and jobsite observations and field testing
- Serve as a resource to other engineers regarding various topics of expertise such as controls, system configuration and operation, etc
- Travel to in-state and out-of-state projects as required
Education:
Degree of higher education in engineering field.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
A candidate for this position must have the following skills:
- Thorough understanding of mechanical systems and controls
- Understanding of commercial lighting controls and technologies
- Three to five years of experience related to commercial HVAC systems and controls auditing and diagnostics
- Availability to travel out of state occasionally
- Ability to troubleshoot HVAC system problems related to test and balance, controls, mechanical and electrical
- Good writing and documentation skills
- Good Excel spreadsheet skills
- Strong presentation skills with ability to speak with confidence to building owners, facility personnel, contractors, architects and engineers
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
The following skills are desired for this position:
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer
- Background of at least two years of energy auditing with project management experience
- Ability to develop energy models using eQuest or DOE-2
- Understanding of renewable energy technologies and sustainable design as applied to commercial construction
- Understanding of daylighting design and analysis
