Building Energy Evaluation Services Staff Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities:
Employee will be a member of the Building Energy Evaluation Services Team and will perform duties as required by the Building Energy Evaluation Services Business Area Team Leader. Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
  • Energy audits and on-site surveys of commercial facilities
  • Instrumentation and diagnostics of building energy systems, including lighting, HVAC and refrigeration
  • Analysis of building energy end-use consumption and energy conservation measure analysis using either sophisticated spreadsheet analysis techniques or DOE-2 modeling, or both
  • Ability to manage and schedule a project in its entirety including report writing
  • Travel to in-state and out-of-state projects as required (one week per month on average)
The right candidate for this position must enjoy the prospect of a combination of both office work and field work.

Responsibilities for Internal Coordination with Others:
This position will coordinate with other members of the Building Energy Evaluation Services and Commissioning Teams, and be assisted by Administrative Support Staff as needed.

Skills Required:
A candidate for this position must have the following skills:

  • BS Degree or higher in mechanical or civil engineering, with an emphasis on building energy engineering
  • Three to five years of experience related to building system energy efficiency and / or building mechanical system design and commissioning
  • Experience with either sophisticated spreadsheet analysis techniques, or building energy simulation programs such as DOE-2 and / or eQUEST
  • Ability to travel out of state
  • Excellent documentation, spreadsheet, and word-processing skills
Skills Recommended:
A candidate for this position might have the following skills / background:
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer
  • Experience with basic instrumentation used in building energy analysis, such as light loggers, data acquisition systems, watt meters, flow meters, etc
  • Understanding of building system controls, controls programming, and system trending
  • An interest in both the technical and sociological aspects of energy efficiency programs
