Daylighting Designer / Engineer - Boulder, Colorado

General Characteristics:
Architectural Energy Corporation, a sustainable energy and engineering consulting firm, is looking for a mid-level to senior person proficient in sophisticated daylighting, lighting and solar control analysis software such as Radiance, AGI32, Ecotect, TracePro, SPOT, etc. A good candidate will not only be technically proficient, but will also be able to use these tools appropriately and efficiently to guide architects and design teams to make informed design decisions on their projects; and will be able to mentor AEC's existing daylighting staff in the use of these tools.
A good candidate must also have a strong interest in key aspects of high-performance buildings such as building science and environmental and integrated systems design.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This employee will be a member of the Analytics Team and will perform duties as assigned by the Manager of Analytics as well as the Sustainable Building Services Unit Leader, including (but not limited to) the following:
- providing general support services on sustainable design services.
- providing general sustainable design analysis.
- providing detailed daylight modeling and analysis.
- reviewing architectural, mechanical and electrical plans and specifications relative to daylighting / electric lighting integration.
- preparing memoranda and reports to inform members of the Design Team relative to daylighting analysis and recommendations.
- meeting / contacting clients to discuss all facets of daylighting design efforts.
- researching and maintaining in-house and web-based resources regarding daylighting design, energy efficient strategies, sustainable building technologies and other sustainable design strategies.
- providing assistance, research and report writing skills on a variety of sustainable design projects.
- traveling to in-state and out-of-state projects as required.
Responsibilities for Internal Coordination with Others:
This position will coordinate with other members of the Daylighting Design Group and the Sustainable Design Assistance Team and be assisted by the AEC Administrative Support Staff as needed.
Education:
An undergraduate four-year degree in engineering and a graduate degree is desired.
Skills Required:
A candidate for this position must have the following skills:
- Understanding of lighting engineering concepts.
- Degree of higher education in an engineering or building related field.
- Expertise in lighting analysis software such as Radiance, AGI32, Ecotect, TracePro, SPOT
- Excellent communication skills — oral and written.
- Excellent organizational, documentation, spreadsheet, and word-processing skills.
Typical Years of Full-Time Professional Experience:
Five to eight.
