Manager of Energy Analysis Group within Sustainable Design Assistance - Boulder, Colorado

General Characteristics:
The Manager of the Energy Analysis Group should have demonstrated experience and competence as a project manager and proven expertise and skills in energy analysis and energy modeling. She (or he) will manage and conduct energy analysis work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. He will devise new approaches to problems encountered, and will have primary responsibility over engineering quality and technical content of documents prepared by group members. As Group Manager, she may be called upon to represent Architectural Energy Corporation in workshops and presentations as related to energy design and analysis and related topics (CFD etc). She will assist the Sustainable Design Team Leader in writing proposals and identifying and attracting potential clients and new projects. She will contribute to understanding the feasibility and soundness of proposed new work and business planning, and will assist the Sustainable Design Assistance Team Leader to monitor the business operations of the Energy Analysis Group as they relate to the overall economic health and viability of the Sustainable Design Assistance Team.

Direction Received:
The Manager of the Energy Analysis Group is expected to primarily perform energy analysis related project work independently with occasional counsel from Senior Engineers and appropriate colleagues, and is generally responsible for overseeing the technical quality and engineering soundness of all work produced by all members of the Energy Analysis Group. The SDA Team Leader will provide technical guidance on business planning, budgeting and general management practices. The primary role for the Group Manager is to manage, execute and maintain a high caliber of engineering project work on contracted projects.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the energy related consulting work for the Sustainable Design Assistance Team. Assignments usually include: project management, scheduling, and technical supervision, in addition to individual project work. Keeps the Sustainable Design Assistance Team Leader informed of current workload, potential obstacles, opportunities for engineering innovation, and specific project deadlines on contracted projects.
  2. Provides a source of engineering expertise for the Energy Analysis Group members and provides technical quality control for the engineering analysis work performed. Position requires a broad knowledge of precedents in energy analysis and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties.
  3. Assists the Sustainable Design Assistance Team Leader develop, prepare and assess the viability of new energy analysis proposals. These proposals may be integrated pieces of larger proposals or stand alone Statements of Work.
  4. Assists the Sustainable Design Assistance Leader to schedule, prepare, and present Employee Performance Evaluations for Energy Analysis Group members.
Responsibility for Direction of Others:
Will supervise and coordinate the work of Energy Analysis Group members and will be responsible for providing status and update reports to the Sustainable Design Assistance Team Leader regarding on-going project work and general scheduling requirements as related to contracted energy analysis services. While any member of the Energy Analysis Group may be assigned the project management role on any given project (as assigned by the Sustainable Design Assistance Team Leader), the Manager of the Energy Analysis Group will assist and supervise individual project managers interact and collaborate with supporting groups (ie. Daylighting and LEED) to insure all project requirements (deadlines and deliverables) are met.
