LEED Intern - San Francisco, California

This part-time position provides LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment) support for the Architectural Energy Corporation (AEC) LEED team, and works directly with clients wishing to certify their facilities or buildings through the LEED rating system. Participation in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in engineering, architecture, environmental design, construction management, or other related fields is required; and one year of part- or full-time professional experience (preferably in commercial design or construction) is preferred. Anticipated time commitment is 10-20 hours / week.

Duties include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • providing general sustainable design and sustainable construction consulting.
  • assisting a project manager with LEED consulting and process coordination.
  • assisting with management of a LEED Certification documentation coordination project in its entirety, including project scheduling, running team meetings, project documentation, and responding to design team requests for information.
  • meeting with clients and discussing LEED coordination efforts and providing assistance on all aspects of sustainable design including sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy efficiency, material resources, and indoor environmental quality.
  • providing assistance, research and report writing skills to a variety of sustainable design projects.
  • maintaining a high level of organization, and continually trying to improve and innovate in-house project management, sustainable design consulting services, LEED business development, and cutting edge sustainable building strategies.
  • reviewing architectural, mechanical and electrical plans and specifications, LEED calculations, and project submittals.
  • reviewing and consulting on LEED templates and calculators to be included in LEED documentation.
  • reviewing general submittal documentation for USGBC official LEED Certification.
  • traveling to in-state and out-of-state projects as required.

A candidate for this position must have the following skills:

  • Good project management and time management skills
  • Good communication skills — oral, written, and presentation
  • Good interpersonal relationship skills
  • Working knowledge of and experience with the building delivery process
  • Knowledge of sustainable strategies and their implementation throughout building design and construction
  • Understanding of the LEED system and its impact on the design and construction process

A candidate for this position might have the following skills / background:

  • One to two years experience in a building related field, preferably on a construction job site or in the field of construction and sustainable design.
  • Successful participation and/or leadership role in a project(s) that has been awarded formal LEED Certification.
  • Understanding of renewable energy technologies and sustainable design as applied to commercial construction.
  • A LEED Accredited Professional certification.
