Smart LED Lighting in Residential Fans

The project on LED Residential Fans developed novel LED-based lighting kits for ceiling and exhaust fans in residential applications. Additionally, the project team explored the integration of controls systems to the LED fan systems to determine if additional energy savings could be achieved in a cost-effective manner.

Project team: the CLTC and Hunter Fan Company

The CLTC worked with Hunter Fan Company to design and develop prototypes for a Retrofit LED Lighting Fan Kit. Also, a prototype exhaust fan with LED lighting was developed. Hunter Fan Company has shown interest in commercializing a kit based on the prototype versions.

One ceiling fan unit is installed at the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) E-House. A second ceiling fan unit is installed at the CLTC facility in Davis. Below are mages of the LED light kits.
