Advanced LED Downlight (Indirect)

The project on Advanced LED Downlighting Systems sought to commercialize a component-based system specifically tailored to the unique characteristics of LED light sources. The new LED downlights are more energy efficient and cost effective than LED downlights based on components intended for CFL light sources . This project completely rethinks the downlight, optimizing its components for the emerging LED light sources while maintaining the features and functionality that have made downlights so popular.

The following images show the indirect LED prototype (left image) that was introduced at LightFair 2008. The proposed system will have up to 10 units with one power supply. Prototype units are installed (right image) at the California Lighting Technology Center in Davis, California. The CLTC is seeking a manufacturing partner for this product.
