Project 4.1 Hotel and Institutional Bathroom Lighting - Projected Market Impacts

Projected Market Impacts for the Hotel and Institutional Bathroom Lighting work are as follows:

  • Decrease energy use in hotel and institutional bathroom applications by 50 percent.
  • Statewide potential energy savings of 120 GW hr/year (100 percent market penetration).
  • Improve the safety of hotel room guests/and occupants in institutional settings (dorms) by creating a nightlight to make nighttime room navigation safe and energy efficient.
  • Increase customer choices for efficient operation of buildings by putting an energy-efficient hotel bathroom light on the market.

It is anticipated that adoption of lighting controls will dramatically reduce overall system energy consumption in the hotel environment. Baseline data will be established and new data gathered to determine the extent of these energy savings. Standard power measurements can be used, and statistical analysis will be performed to extrapolate field measurements to reveal an estimated annual savings. In addition to energy savings, it is also anticipated that a total systems approach to hotel lighting will yield cost savings in the form of reduced hardware and installation costs. Comparisons with existing hardware and installation costs will reveal the economic advantages of the new system.

Project Information for Hotel and Institutional Bathroom Lighting

Based on the number of existing installation sites and the market penetration of this technology, statistical estimates can be made for overall energy and dollar savings potentials.
