Demand Responsive Lighting Systems Element:
Project 3.1 Retrofit Fluorescent Dimming with Integrated Lighting Controls - Projected Market Impacts

Projected Market Impacts for the Retrofit Fluorescent Dimming with Integrated Lighting Controls work are:

  • Reduce lighting demand by up to 70 percent, or over 1.4 GW if integrated lighting controls deployed widely throughout California commercial buildings.
  • Fully deployed, integrated lighting controls could reduce lighting energy consumption of California commercial buildings by 4 billion kWh/year.

The new system will have widespread potential application in many commercial building markets including small commercial buildings, which are identified as underserved markets. It is anticipated that peak lighting demand in commercial spaces can be reduced up to 70 percent with this system under demand curtailment conditions. The new system will increase occupants' satisfaction with the lighted environment by providing them wallbox dimming control of overhead lighting.
