Project 3.2 Energy Efficient Load Shedding Technology - Baseline Conditions

Fluorescent lighting systems represent approximately 75 percent of the lighting in commercial buildings in California. Dimming electronic ballasts for these systems currently cost approximately twice as much as non-dimming electronic ballasts, therefore dimming electronic ballasts are installed in less than 10 percent of commercial buildings.

Building owners who do not have dimming electronic ballasts and an appropriate lighting control system cannot use their fluorescent lighting systems to shed electric load during times of peak demand.
