Project 3.2 Energy Efficient Load Shedding Technology - Projected Market Impacts

Projected Market Impacts for the Energy Efficient Load Shedding Technology work are to lower electricity usage for lighting and reduce peak electric demand. Specifically, the impacts are as follows:

  • Reduced peak electric demand from lighting by 30 to 60 percent
  • Decreased lighting energy use in commercial buildings by 20 to 30 percent
  • Improvement of the effectiveness, flexibility, and controllability of fluorescent lighting systems by allowing a low cost alternative to traditional dimming electronic ballasts.
  • Increased customer choices for efficient operation of buildings by allowing them to quickly and easily shed electric load through their lighting system.

The market impacts will be measured by installing the load-shedding technology in field trial to verify that energy reduction will be achieved under normal building operation conditions, and tracking the market penetration of the load-shedding technologies in California buildings.
