Project 3.3 Classroom Photocell and Control System - Baseline Conditions

The Watt Stopper has recently developed and begun selling the third generation photocontroller. This photocontroller senses the light level within a room and raises or lowers the light output from the controlled fixtures to maintain a target light level.

This product incorporates a newly patented photocell technology, which increases the spectral selectivity of the currently available daylighting controls. Independent adjustments are also provided for the electric and daylight set points. It is believed that these adjustments are required to meet the varied requirements of daylighted spaces.

This product utilizes analog electronics to provide control. Without the capabilities of a microprocessor, it has been found that the photosensor requires extensive commissioning. It is believed that the energy saving potential of these controls will only be realized if the amount of time and the amount of skill required by the commissioning agent are reduced.
