Project 5.1 Bi-Level Stairwell Fixture Performance - Baseline Conditions


As illustrated in the table below, commercial lighting at peak is currently estimated to consume approximately 8.6 GW of energy in California. Widespread application of occupant controlled bi-level lighting in stairwells could reduce this load by 0.4 GW. Further application of bi-level lighting to corridors could reduce lighting energy even further.

Code officials and building operators and owners in California are unaware of this innovative technology. These new bi-level fixtures need to document their compliance for any safety, egress or building code issues.
