Market Connection Element:
Project 6.1 Program-Wide Market Connection System - Projected Market Impacts

Projected Market Impacts for the Program-Wide Market Connection System are as follows:

  • Accelerate average market introduction and adoption of the Program R&D products by at least one year.
  • Expand ultimate market size and penetration of the Program product portfolio by at least 20 percent beyond reasonably predicted results without the project's efforts, both through increasing the number of Program products that reach the market and through increases in their acceptance.
  • Increase the Program product portfolio's resulting reduction in California energy use by at least 20 percent.

Obviously, most of the Program's R&D products will not complete the full path from concept through technology development, product engineering, production, marketing, and market entry within the limited two-year life of the Program. This means that the benefits of those products must be projected or "deemed" rather than measured directly in market effects.

In addition, the effects of this additional project's efforts are incremental improvements on those effects, and require a more refined measurement approach. These anticipated incremental market benefits can best be estimated by industry experts actively involved in product placement and use. A panel of such experts will be used to provide a consensus estimate of the improvement in key measures such as likelihood of market acceptance, timing, penetration, and achievement of specific benefits such as energy savings.

In addition, alliances will be developed on behalf of these products with efficiency advocacy groups, regulatory agencies, and industry professional and trade associations.
