Exterior LED-Hybrid
Fixture

Concept:

Work with one or more manufacturing partners to design, prototype and evaluate a series of exterior lighting systems using LEDs. The goal of the work is to reduce the energy consumption of incandescent exterior and perimeter light fixtures by 75 percent while providing fixture and optical geometries to mitigate night sky light pollution.

Solution:

The California Lighting Technology Center, working with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, has developed a series of fixtures for various exterior applications. The main fixture concept combines and 'always on' ambient LED illuminator with a standard incandescent lamp on a motion control sensor. Currently, two manufacturing partners are working with LBNL to bring the products into production.
