Concept

Significant potential exists to reduce lighting energy and improve the performance of outdoor lighting systems. The goal of this project is to develop and demonstrate a prototype system for outdoor luminaires with improved performance and energy efficient characteristics.

Solution

Analyze new performance standards developed in Europe for a low glare system for outdoor luminaires and determine the applicability of this work to U.S. manufacturers of similar luminaires now in use in California, then work with Gardco to develop design concepts for an energy efficient low glare system for outdoor luminaires founded on results of recent visual performance studies and research data from Europe and North America.
