Project Details
In an effort to preserve and display the historical artifacts of the U.S. Marine Corps and inform the public about life as a Marine, a national design competition was held for the design of a Marine Corps Heritage Center to be located in Quantico, Virginia. A design team lead by Fentress Bradburn Architects (FBA) was selected by the jury to receive the commission to design the Center. A key aspect of the Competition Program was to be responsive to energy and environmental issues in master planning the site and in designing the facilities. The FBA design successfully integrates the Center’s functional requirements with a powerful architectural expression of energy and environmental responsiveness. A large central gallery is surrounded by earth-sheltered exhibit space, administrative, and public service areas. Daylighting will be used extensively in all Center spaces and sustainable materials, components, and systems will be used throughout the building.
