AEC's Ellen Franconi Speaking at the GreenBuild Conference
November 5, 2007
-
Energy Analysis Group leader, Ellen Franconi, will be speaking at the U.S. Green Building Council's 2007 GreenBuild Conference, which will be taking place in Chicago, Illinois.
The presentation, titled, "The Right Tool for the Job: The Wows and Woes of Modeling Green Buildings" will focus on the following session description:
Incorporating energy analysis as part of the new construction design process promotes a holistic approach for evaluating design trade offs and life cycle costs. The simulation tools one may use to evaluate building energy performance during the design process can vary depending on the design phase, project scope, and performance objectives. In this session, engineers from three consulting firms present their approach for integrating energy analysis into the design process for commercial new construction projects. Several aspects of modeling Green Buildings will be discussed, including: matching analysis tools to analysis needs, delivering and refining an energy design solution, and applying LEED® energy modeling protocols.
Learning Outcomes
- Matching analysis tools to analysis needs
- Delivering and refining an energy design solution
- Applying LEED® energy modeling protocols to the project
- How to incorporate energy analysis into the design process.
- Which software tools are frequently used and for what applications.
- What special considerations might need to be made for applying LEED® energy modeling protocols in a project.

Zack Rogers Speaking at the Velux 2nd Daylight Symposium in Spain
May 10, 2007
-
Daylighting Group team leader, Zack Rogers, was invited to take part in the Velux 2nd Daylight Symposium at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain on May 6th - 7th. The symposium will focus on post occupancy evaluation of daylit buildings and the current state of daylighting research and design, primarily for schools. As part of the program, Mr. Rogers will give an overview of current daylighting design tools and their applicability to the various design stages.
AEC Provides Sustainable Design Assistance to the Boston Museum of Science
January 23, 2007
-
Architectural Energy Corporation's Sustainable Design Assistance team continues to work closely with Fentress Bradburn Architects on the design of the renovation and expansion of the Boston Museum of Science. After collaborating on the initial master planning and concept design, AEC is currently assisting Fentress Bradburn Architects, and their local architectural partner Doug Dick Associates, to design a new office and shops area in a renovated portion of the parking garage.
|
As the first phase of a multi-phase renovation/expansion program, the Museum wants to establish the proper direction for energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable design. Aggressive load reduction strategies, along with aggressive solar control and daylight, and possibly building-integrated photovoltaics, will be part of the sustainable design strategies of the Gordon Wing of the Museum.
Once fundraising has raised sufficient funds, design development efforts will begin on the larger renovation and expansion projects at the Museum. Architectural Energy Corporation will again be assisting Fentress Bradburn Architects achieve Museum energy efficiency and environmental goals. |
