Successful daylighting design can reduce electrical and mechanical energy consumption and enhance the visual environment while creating a healthier, more productive building for its occupants. Inappropriate daylighting can introduce unwanted glare and solar gains resulting in decreased occupant satisfaction and increased energy consumption. AEC has extensive experience in successfully integrating progressive daylighting techniques and strategies into today's commercial buildings. AEC assists clients in selecting high performance glazings, designing complete daylighting systems, evaluating exterior shading options, and integrating electric lighting and electric lighting controls into building design.
AEC is a national leader in the use of
Radiance
for daylighting design and analysis. Radiance is a highly accurate ray-tracing software system capable of modeling spectral and diffuse, as well as curved surfaces, and used by AEC to model and analyze temporal daylight and electric lighting on both the interior and exterior of buildings.
AEC also uses
Trace-Pro,
a highly precise and sophisticated raytracing software program to determine the effectiveness of a proposed daylight solution. With Trace-Pro it is possible to accurately predict the effects of scattering, diffraction, absorption, reflection and refraction in daylighting design. |
