Architectural Energy Corporation offers technical writing and editing services to transfer information, particularly that on energy efficient design and construction, to the architecture, engineering, and construction professions. These services include:
- defining the content of each technical document
- preparing or coordinating the preparation of the content
- creating all graphics
- formatting and laying out the document
- coordinating technical reviews
- final document preparation, publishing and distribution
Document Design and Production
AEC's personnel are experienced in many aspects of the design/construction process, and understand the information needs of practitioners. This experience has been used to develop a variety of workbooks and application handbooks on topics of special interest to the building industry community, as well as producing design-related documents for non-technical audiences.
Project Highlights
Advanced Lighting Guidelines
An award winning handbook that explains advanced technologies for: lighting design practice; computer-aided lighting, luminaires and lighting systems; energy-efficient and electronic ballasts; full-size fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, conventional shape tungsten halogen lamps, and compact metal halide and white high-pressure sodium lamps. The guidelines were originally prepared for the California Energy Commission in 1990, but were updated in 1993 with the support of the CEC, U.S. Department of Energy, and the Electric Power Research Institute.
AEC produced Advanced Lighting Guidelines 2000 Update, and recently completed work on the 2002 Update of this manual. AEC edited the text for technical content, style and grammar; prepared all graphics; addressed all public comments; provided comments on author's drafts, and produced the printer-ready files for the final document.

ASHRAE User's Manuals for Standard 90.1
AEC has developed numerous manuals for ASHRAE, including the User's Manuals for Standard 90.1-89, 90.1-99, and 90.1-2001. The User's Manual for the 90.1 Standards explains the new standard, includes sample calculations, provides useful reference material, and offers information on the intent and application of the standard. As with the 1989 User's Manual, this updated manual is abundantly illustrated, contains numerous examples, and provides tables of reference data. The manual also includes a complete set of compliance forms and worksheets that can be used to document compliance with the code.
ASHRAE 90.2 Manual
AEC developed the User's manual for ASHRAE Standard 90.2-1993, the residential standard. This document supports the standard by providing case studies, examples, compliance forms, and other how-to-do-it information.
