Engineering Estimates for Statewide Energy Efficiency Databases
AEC has developed a set of engineering estimates for investor-owned utilities efficiency programs in various states. These per unit energy savings estimates are used to guide program design and cost effectiveness calculations for statewide energy efficiency programs. The energy savings estimates are based on simulations of a set of prototypical buildings for both residential and commercial market sectors. Building characteristics data available through the US DOE Energy Information Agency (EIA) Residential Energy Consumption Survey also are reviewed to inform model revisions to better reflect construction practices in individual states.

Energy Design Resources (EDR) Program
AEC has been a key participant in the EDR programs since the program's inception. Working with Southern California Edison (SCE), San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E), and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), AEC prepared design briefs, initiated the newsletter series, developed the eVALUator software, and coordinated and presented in-house workshops. AEC also developed six on-line virtual workshops for design teams in California to learn about energy efficiency issues. In 2003, AEC contacted a number of professors and instructors at several California colleges and universities to assess their interest in integrating Energy Design Resources (EDR) information resources into their education curricula.

 California Building Energy Initiative
The California Building Energy Initiative was a pilot program focused on reducing the energy consumption of commercial buildings in the Southern California Edison (SCE) service territory. Sponsored by SCE and the State of California, the program was intended to decrease the energy consumption of commercial buildings through the application of commissioning techniques to tune-up the cooling and air-distribution equipment in participating buildings.

Building Efficiency Assessment
AEC provided statewide reports for the Non-Residential New Construction (NRNC) program area for three California utilities covering various program years. The reports included summary results for both program participants of Savings By Design (SBD) and program non-participants. The evaluation is based on engineering models that are informed by detailed onsite audits and statistically projected to the program population and by surveys with the building owners and design teams regarding the energy design choices made for these buildings.
