Estimated
Annual Energy Savings
After
monitoring the Irvine Office Building and reviewing the analyses
data, several energy conservation measures were identified.
One
main energy conservation measure --
improved control of the electric duct resistance heaters --
is recommended for implementation. Two other measures were
identified -- improved
chiller plant scheduling and repair
of leaks in the air-handling system -- but due to minimal
energy savings, the measures were not recommended for implementation.
From the one recommended measure, it is estimated that the
building owner will realize $111,800 in energy savings. With
the cost of improving the control of the electric duct resistance
heaters estimated at $73,000 and the cost of the engineering
analyses paid by Southern California Edison and the State
of California, the recommissioning work at the Irvine Office
Building will provide a simple payback of eight months.
The
accompanying pie charts show actual energy costs before and
estimated energy costs after the recommissioning program.
The energy savings will be achieved by lowering peak demand
and reducing energy use.
The
utility bills will continue to be monitored by AEC engineering
staff after the measure is implemented to ensure the energy
savings are achieved.
